Where Can LifeStraw Be Used?
Meant for recreational waters in the great outdoors it is perfect for travel, hiking, disaster preparedness, survival gear and more. LifeStraw can be used almost anywhere. The ultra lightweight construction makes it perfect for any activity including ultralight backpacking, biking trips, hiking, camping, hunting, safari, road trips, emergency preparedness, or travel in the developing world. It makes the perfect gift for any outdoors enthusiast and is a must-have for emergency preparedness. As with all water filters, LifeStraw has its limits. Due to the fact it does not filter viruses, for example, it would not be the filter of choice for waste contaminated water.
How Does LifeStraw Work?
LifeStraw works when suction is applied by the user to draw water through the microporous filter material within the "straw" itself. When done, the user flushes the water remaining in the filter back out through the bottom by blowing through the mouthpiece.
Does LifeStraw Remove Turbidity?
LifeStraw does not remove complete turbidity from water; however, it removes the bacteria and parasites as well as undissolved particles down to the finest microns. If you need to consume turbid water, use LifeStraw to drink only from the surface i.e. the top layer. Excessive intake of turbid water would clog the filters and therefore regular backwashing would be required. The lifespan of LifeStraw will be reduced the more turbid the water that is filtered.
How Do You Unclog LifeStraw If It Gets Blocked?
At regular intervals, it is recommended to do 'backwashing' that can be done by blowing out some air through the LifeStraw. This will clean the pre-filters of whatever sand, silt and debris that might have got deposited in the textile filters.
